“Makerspace”is not an end in itself. It is about providing capacity to enable students to gain the skills and attributes to solve the world’s real problems; a world that is largely following a “money” paradigm, that is leading to growing inequality and suffering, and destroying the planet. Students need to be armed with these “future” skills and attributes, and the knowledge that a sustainable future depends on “social responsibility” not pursuit of wealth. These students need to be able to find their own problems, and be able to apply inquiry and design thinking models to keep improving their prototypes. The goal of teaching is not engagement, it is about the real problems that confront us all.
